These lizards hail from New Caledonia, an island country off the coast of Australia. They were once thought to be extinct but were "rediscovered" around 1994. Since then, their popularity as pets has continually increased.
As cold-blooded creatures, all reptiles need to regulate their body temperature. A daytime temperature gradient of 72–80 degrees Fahrenheit (22 to 26.5 degrees Celsius) should be provided for crested geckos. At night, 65–75 degrees Fahrenheit (18 to 24 degrees Celsius) is necessary. I use a small heating pad stuck to the back of the cage that regulates the heat.
Crested geckos need a moderate to high humidity level of about 50–70%. I have a Temp and humidity gauge to monitor levels daily at the top and bottom of the cage. I provide humidity with regular misting with warm, filtered water. The system goes off every 12 hours to help regulate the humidity.
Crested geckos will usually eat a combination of a commercial diet and fruits such as Banana's and Blueberries, it si this way to ensure a well-balanced, nutritious diet. They should be fed 2 - 3 times a week.
You should plan on a crested gecko living for at least 10 years, maybe even reaching 20 years old if the lizard is healthy.
Crested Geckos are nocturnal and are most active at night. We are in Mountain Time in case you need to know what time it is here. my local time is listed below. I keep the shades open during the day to help Lizzy get sun light and a small light bulb turned on at night so the webcam can pick her up.
